Terms and conditions
Last updated: October 27, 2026
These terms govern your use of DropToText. By creating an account or buying hours you accept them, so please read them carefully.
Who provides the service
DropToText is the trade name under which Juan Camilo Cruz Cespedes, based in Bogotá, Colombia, provides this service. You can write to us at [email protected].
What DropToText does
It turns audio and video recordings into text with an automatic transcription engine based on artificial intelligence, and lets you download them as Word, plain text and subtitles.
Automatic transcription can contain errors, especially with background noise, several people talking at once, strong accents or uncommon words. Review the result before publishing it or using it for important decisions.
Your account
- You sign in with a link we send to your email. Whoever controls that email controls the account, so keep it safe.
- You must be of legal age in your country to create an account.
- The free trial is given only once per person and per email. Creating extra accounts to repeat it is grounds for closing them.
Hours, prices and payments
- You buy transcription hours in advance. It is not a subscription: there are no recurring charges.
- Prices are shown in US dollars with taxes included, unless the checkout page says otherwise for your country.
- Payment is processed by an authorized reseller that acts as the merchant of the sale and issues the corresponding receipt or invoice.
- Hours you buy do not expire while your account exists.
- Each file uses its real length, down to the second, with a minimum of 15 seconds. When a transcript starts we set that time aside from your balance; if it fails, we give all of it back.
Refunds
You can request a refund of unused hours within 14 days of purchase by writing to [email protected]. Hours already used are not refunded, except where the law of your country requires it. If a purchase is refunded, we deduct the corresponding hours from your balance.
Your content
- The files you upload and their transcripts are yours. You allow us to process them only to provide the service to you.
- You confirm that you have the right to upload each recording and, where the law requires it, the consent of the people who appear in it.
- Do not upload illegal content or content that infringes other people's rights.
How long we keep your files
- The audio or video is deleted as soon as the transcript is done.
- A file that is never processed, for example because you didn't complete a purchase, is deleted after 24 hours.
- The transcript stays available for 5 days after it is ready and is then deleted.
Download your copy in time: after that we cannot recover it.
Acceptable use
Do not try to access other people's accounts, get around the service's limits, overload it, automate its use without permission or use it for illegal activities. We may suspend or close accounts that do.
Availability and changes to the service
We work to keep the service available, but there may be interruptions for maintenance or failures. We may change features or prices; a price change never affects hours you have already bought.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the event that gives rise to it. This does not limit rights that the consumer protection law of your country does not allow to be limited.
Closing your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. When you do, we delete your files and your personal data. Unused hours are lost, unless you request a refund within the period in the refunds section.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Colombia. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live.
Changes to these terms
If we make important changes, we will email you before they take effect.
